Alan Bateman

May 5, 1939 — April 24, 2022

On Sunday, April 24, 2022 at 11:00 am, Alan Henry Bateman, our loving, selfless, funny, and sometimes goofy husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa, and friend passed away. Dad passed peacefully with the love of his life at his side. Dad was born on May 5, 1939, to Arthur LeRoy and Beatrice Dawson Bateman. He was raised in Ogden and graduated from Ogden High School. Following high school he received his associates degree in accounting from Stevens-Henager College. Dad met the former Mary Lou Lundberg (mom) while she was still in high school. Not wanting to rush things, dad and mom waited a whole two weeks after mom’s graduation to get married on June 11, 1959. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple. Dad’s passing came a month and a half before his and mom’s 63rd anniversary, but dad made sure to thank mom for 63 wonderful years before his passing. Dad and mom had four children: Rick, Denise, Sherie, and Greg. Dad performed accounting in various departments at Thiokol for 40 years. There he met, teased, and tormented many friends and colleagues. After retirement, dad fully immersed himself in church callings where he befriended another group who would be subject to his antics. Family was always first and foremost to dad. Growing up there was no need to call a service man as dad could fix or build anything. As us kids moved out, when something needed to be fixed or built, we still only needed dad’s number. Dad was always there to help, tools in hand. There was a standing joke that dad should not be around anything sharp. He could cut himself just thinking about a knife. Because of dad and mom, the Bateman clan has remained close. We continue to get together frequently to do our favorite thing; eat and tease each other. Newcomers to these family gatherings are generally overwhelmed with “Dad”isms, which are met by about 50% eye rolls and 50% laughs. Dad loved to garden and could spend hours sitting on his butt pulling weeds. He enjoyed being able to keep the neighborhood in produce, especially tomatoes and cucumbers. He also loved Weber State football and basketball, especially when he could go with his oldest son, Rick. Dad had many friends throughout his life that were very important to him, some have been life-long friends, others came into his life recently. Dad would want all of you to know how much he loved you. Dad is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Denise; grandson, Chad; great-grandson Kamdyn; brother, Arthur; sister Cleone; sisters-in-law, Reah, Leah, and Beverly; and brother-in-law Joel. He is survived by his "life" Mary Lou; children, Rick (Kris) of Clinton, Sherie (Randy) Holst of Perry, Greg (Teresa) of Riverdale; Son-in-law Kim Fuhriman of South Ogden; Son-in-Law Rick Donnelson of Ogden; 8 grandchildren; 5.75 great-grandchildren. A funeral service will be held on May 3rd, at the Riverdale 8th Ward, 4000 Parker Drive, Riverdale, Utah at Noon. Viewings will be held on Monday, May 2nd, from 6-8 pm and Tuesday, May 3rd prior to the service at 10-11:30 am, at the church. Interment will be in the Ogden City Cemetery. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Atlas Home Health and Hospice, especially Kensie, Jordan, and Chrystal. Services entrusted to Gillies Funeral Chapel.
