Alice Young

November 25, 1928 — September 9, 2021

Alice Ruth Jacobson Young November 25, 1928 – September 9, 2021 Alice Ruth Jacobson Young, 92, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2021 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born on November 25, 1928 in Ossining, New York where she spent her youth and graduated from Ossining High School. She attended State University of New York, Plattsburgh State Teachers’ College earning a Bachelor’s degree in 1950 and a Master’s degree in 1954, both in Home Economics. She started her career in secondary education in South Otselic and Mt Kisco, New York. While working at a resort in the Catskill Mountains during the summer of 1952, she met and fell in love with James Stanley Young. Alice and Stan were married November 29, 1952. They eventually settled down in a historic home on Main Street in Elbridge, New York where they raised their three children. Alice was an accomplished seamstress designing and sewing beautiful clothes for herself and the family as well as ski jackets, sleeping bags, and tents for the family’s many adventures. Alice returned to teaching when all her children were in school, but resigned her position when she and Stan bought the Skaneateles Fabric Shop that she ran for several years before returning to teaching. Alice enjoyed many arts and crafts including knitting, tole painting, and quilting. Many a child received a pair of knitted mittens; perfectly sized and in the child’s favorite color. Alice was an active member of Quilt Guilds in both New York and Utah for many years sharing her skills with others. In 1996, Alice and Stan moved to Brigham City, Utah. They continued traveling across the US and Canada, and also visited many European countries as well as Korea and Japan. They had wonderful adventures that they shared with family and friends. Following Stan’s death in 2007, Alice moved to an independent living apartment complex in Salt Lake City, Utah where she continued to live a full and happy life. Alice always loved meeting and speaking with new people, remembering both an individual’s name as well as an interesting detail about their life. Everyone enjoyed being with Alice; her warm personality and quick sense of humor charmed all. Alice is survived by daughter Stacey Young-McCaughan and her husband Patrick McCaughan; son Steven D. Young and his partner Cristan Ellison; and son Reed F. Young, his wife Norma, and their son Brian. Alice was preceded in death by husband J. Stanley, parents Frank and Ethel Jacobson, and brother Richard Jacobson and his wife Martha.
