Arlene Peterson Stoner
Our loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, Arlene Peterson Stoner, 76, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 18, 2025 surrounded by her family in Mantua, Utah.
She was born on April 29, 1948 in Brigham City, Utah a daughter of Ivan Sylvester and Doris Marelda Neville Peterson. She grew up in a large happy family where she shared a room with her twin sister.
Arlene graduated from Box Elder High School in 1966.
After years of persistence, she finally convinced the shy boy that lived next door to propose. She married her sweetheart, Stanley B Stoner on December 5, 1976 in Brigham City, Utah, and moved in with him next door. They lived in this small house for 14 years before they decided to build a new home on the same lot through the block in 1992. This meant that Arlene lived in 3 different houses in the same city block her entire life!
Arlene worked for Safeway Foods for many years before working as an office coordinator with IHC Home Health and Hospice for 27 years! Ironically it was her coworkers and friends that she loved so much that got to love and care for her the last couple weeks of her life after she, herself, was placed on hospice.
Arlene truly never met a stranger. In fact, it was amusing to watch her being introduced to strangers! Usually she would greet them with hugs and kisses and a loud greeting similar to, “Hello Beautiful!”. It would leave people confused and bewildered, trying to figure out how they knew her previously, because no one would have that kind of interaction with a stranger?!
She loved everything Stan loved, totally embracing the hobbies of antiques and collecting. Filling their home with some of the best collections in the country. Family trips were often touring antique shops in the western states, attending antique and bottle shows, fishing in Island Park, and camping in the West Dessert. She also loved to garden. Her yard was always blooming year-round. But what she loved most was her Stan, two daughters and son-in-laws and 10 grandkids! She often said she loved having the loud and crazy house. Everyone was always welcome with food and laughter and a never-ending supply of popsicles. From the day her first grandchild was born she only wanted to be known as “Grandma”. Although not technically related, many people called her grandma, which is a role she would proudly adopt for anyone!
Her life was filled with selfless service, with others needs always put before her own. She was the most loving and accepting person to ever live. She was the best Mom and Grandma you could ever have and her impression on our lives will never fade.
Surviving are two daughters, Melissa (Eric) Holmstead of Logan, and Stacy (Cody) Richards of Mantua, 10 grandchildren, two sisters, Carolyn Douglas and Connie Schultz, and brother and sister-in-law Bruce and Ann Stoner.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Stanley Stoner, brothers, Morrell Peterson, George Peterson and sisters, Marlene Erickson and Marolyn Wilkinson.
