Bud Lowe

January 19, 1930 — August 11, 2023

Bud Edward Lowe, a dedicated and compassionate man known for his humble spirit and generous heart, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 11, 2023. Born on January 19, 1930, in Joseph, UT, a son of Glen Dewey and Maude Mills Lowe. Bud led a life filled with service to his family, his community, and his faith. Despite the odds against him from his premature birth and surviving numerous traumatic car accidents, Bud was a walking miracle, demonstrating resilience and an unyielding spirit throughout his life. His service in the 213th Armored Field Artillery during the Korean Conflict further showcased his dedication, where he and his entire unit returned home without a single casualty. Bud's professional career was as impressive as his personal life. A hard-working and humble engineer, he worked for prestigious companies such as Thiokol, Ford Motor Company, Boeing, and Atlantic Missile Research Base in Green River, UT, after which he taught Applied Industrial Arts at East Carbon High School. He left a lasting impact in the aerospace industry. At Thiokol, Bud contributed significantly to the Space Shuttle rocket boosters and support equipment, earning the admiration and respect of his colleagues at Kennedy Space Center. He retired from Thiokol in 1991. Bud was also a member of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers and a passionate scout master in his younger years. Family, faith, and service were the cornerstones of Bud's life. He served two missions with his wife, Sherry Lee, in San Antonio, Texas, and Cove Fort Historical Site, Utah, where they shared their faith and dedication to the Lord. Bud also served as a Bishop and was a lifelong active member of his church. Bud loved serving as an ordnance worker in the Ogden and Brigham City Temples. His love for his family and the Lord was evident in his actions, and he found great joy in gardening and temple work. Bud is survived by his children, Janis (Terry) Portery; Ruth (Dennis) Moody, Greg (Kathy) Lowe, Jeffrey (Linda) Lowe; his siblings, Bill (Nanette) Lowe, Elma Strong, Maggie (Larry) Harvey, Susan (Ric) Williams, Glenna (Leonard) Davis, and Joseph Lowe. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sherry Lee of 67 years, his daughters, Sherin Kay Lowe and Julie Ann Lowe; his siblings, Dewey Lowe, Elmo Lowe, Deloris Baker, and Roscena Lowe.
