A valiant daughter of Heavenly Father has been called home. Carma Jean Christensen Lee, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, slipped peacefully through the veil on January 8, 2025, after a courageous second battle with cancer. She will be deeply missed by those who know and love her.
Carma was born December 2, 1943, in Ephraim, Utah, to Moyle Newell Christensen and Gwenneth Jean Christensen. She spent most of her childhood in Ogden, Utah, but enjoyed spending many weekends in Ephraim with her treasured extended family. She excelled in school and graduated from Weber High School with honors. She attended one year at Utah State University, and the following summer was asked on a blind date with Larry Lee. They met on August 2nd, and it was love at first sight. They were married December 18, 1963, in the Salt Lake Temple.
Larry and Carma made their home in Brigham City, Utah, for a short time, before moving to Menan, Idaho, where they lived for 28 years, and where eight children joined their family. They treasured the friendships they had in Menan. In 1992, they moved to Whitney, Idaho, where they lived for 32 years, while Larry taught seminary at Preston High School. They cherished their time in Whitney and all of the wonderful friends they had there, too. In December of 2024, as Carma’s battle with cancer intensified, they moved to Mapleton, Utah, to be near their children.
Family was at the heart of Carma’s life. She loved her parents, her siblings, Larry’s siblings and their spouses, extended family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At the time of her death, her own family included 101 people. She loved each one of them and created opportunities for them to be together as much as possible. Carma also dedicated herself to carefully writing histories for both her ancestors and Larry's ancestors, as well as for her children. In addition, she spent countless hours researching family names for temple work.
Carma made the world a better place wherever she went because of her many talents and abilities. Her talents included home improvement, gardening, sewing, re-upholstering furniture, organizing, bookkeeping, planning vacations, and refurbishing RV trailers. She always used her talents to bless and help others, as well as her own family.
Carma’s greatest strength was her love for and testimony of the Lord. She served in many callings, and she and Larry served several church missions including Ukraine Kiev, Temple Square, the Palmyra Temple (two different times), and Cinnamon Creek Campground. They also served in the Logan Temple from 2008 to 2024, with several breaks for missions and health challenges. They absolutely loved their missions, their time in the temple, and all of the wonderful friendships they made. Throughout their service, Larry and Carma have held fast to their favorite scripture, Proverbs 3:5-6: “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
Carma is survived by her beloved husband of 61 years, Larry Ellis Lee of Preston, Idaho, (Mapleton), her eight children – Richard Lee, of Orem, Utah; Darin (Jenni) Lee of Farmington, Utah; Dana (Brett) Peterson of Layton, Utah; Rhett (Kelly) Lee of Mapleton, Utah; Brooke (Trace) Lund of Mapleton, Utah; Evan (Christina) Lee of Lehi, Utah; Laurel (Michael) Bingham of Longmont, Colorado; and Gina (Matthew) Adams of Elgin, Oregon; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; Carma’s brother Allen (Janis) Christensen, sister Nedra (Rodney) Peterson, sister Jill (Jackson) Ellis, and brother Layne (JoAnn) Christensen; and Larry’s brothers, sisters, and spouses, whom she loved very much. She was preceded in death by her parents, Moyle and Gwenneth Christensen.
