Clair Olsen

BRIGHAM CITY - Clair Nash Olsen passed away peacefully at his home Brigham City, Utah on March 31, 2017. He was born February 8, 1929 in Weston, Idaho to Frank Lyder and Hilda Oveda Nash Olsen. He graduated from West Side High School in Dayton, Idaho in 1948. From 1949 to 1951 he served as an LDS missionary in the Oslo, Norway Mission. After his mission he served in the U. S. Army from 1951 to 1955. On June 6, 1952 he married Virginia Blanche Olson from Arimo, Idaho in the Logan LDS Temple. He attended Utah State University earning a bachelor's degree in history education and then later on a master's degree in media science. In 1956 he moved his family to Brigham City, Utah where he worked at Intermountain Indian School until its closure. He then took a position at Thiokol working in human resources. Some of his favorite hobbies were oil painting, photography and shopping at the mall with his daughters. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints he served in many different callings but especially enjoyed the opportunity to serve with his wife as Ogden LDS Temple Ordinance Workers, as well as serving together in the Stake Name Extraction Center for many years. He is survived by his wife Virginia and 11 children, Stephen (Debra) Olsen; Richard (Terry) Olsen; Robert (DeLis) Olsen; Alan (Elizabeth) Olsen; Mark (Valerie) Olsen; Susan (Rick) Merryweather; Douglas (Shauna) Olsen; Linda (Mark) Orchard; David Scott Olsen; Jeanette (Raul) Christensen; Karen (Ryan) Cheever. Also survived by 31 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister Tamara (Bruce) Evans, a brother Michael (Rebecca) Olsen and sister-in-law Sharon (Larry) Olsen. Preceded in death by daughter Marianne Olsen, his brother Larry Olsen and parents. A viewing will be held Friday April 7, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City, Utah. Saturday morning a viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.at the Forest Hills Ward, 25 North 300 East, Brigham City, Utah with the funeral beginning at 11:00 a.m. Interment at the Brigham City, Utah Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Combined Veterans from Box Elder County. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Primary Children's Medical Center.
