David Price

April 12, 1929 — March 30, 2024

David Robert Price was born in Salt Lake City Utah on April 12th, 1929. He was the third son of Rudger and Grace Valentine Price, following brothers Richard V. and J. Alan. At the age of three, the family moved to Brigham City, Utah. David attended school in Brigham City and graduated from Box Elder High. He played guard for the Box Elder High School football team, which won the Utah State Championships in 1945 and 1946. David attended Brigham Young University for a year on a full tuition ($25) scholarship. He attended Weber Junior College the following year and then went on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Southern States Mission, serving from 1949 to 1951. As the Korean war was ongoing, he was drafted into the army in 1951. He trained as a CIC agent in Baltimore, and spent about a year and a half at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He was honorably discharged from the Army in 1953. He married Dolores Holst on December 28, 1953. He graduated from Utah State in 1956 with a degree in Education. He taught school at Grantsville, Utah for a year. They then moved to Salt Lake City and he got a job with Smith Drugs. Their first daughter, Julie Anne was born April 2nd, 1955. Cindy Sue was born August 1st, 1957. Their son Kenneth was born April 1st 1959. In 1960, Smith Drug (which later became Bergen Brunswick Drug) transferred David to Boise, Idaho. They lived in Boise, Idaho for 34 years. When he retired, David and Dolores returned to Utah and settled in South Ogden. His church callings over the years included being an Elders’ Quorum President, a High Priest Group Leader, a Sunday School teacher, and a High Councilor in the Boise South Stake. Part of that assignment was to go out to the Idaho State Correctional facility and conduct Sunday services for the inmates there. He did that for almost 6 years. All that time in Boise and Ogden, he and Dolores bowled in leagues. David had a powerful hook stroke and could explode the pins. They also started playing golf together after he retired. Thanks to Cindy’s husband John, they attended the 2000 Sydney Olympics and the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics with VIP credentials. When his beloved Dolores passed away in 2003, David attended the Olympics Games in Athens in 2004, in Torino in 2006, in Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012. At each event at least one grandchild was able to be with him. He loved attending the Olympics! While in Ogden, he and Dolores served in the Ogden Temple as ordinance workers. David continued to serve in the temple every Saturday for another 16 years. He served his Ironwood neighbors as the street light maintenance man. He finally hung up his step stool and light changing duties in his late eighties. He is a true disciple of Jesus Christ. He served his family and friends with Christ-like dependability and attributes during his mortal journey. We know he is now busy serving the Lord and others with his dear eternal companion Dolores. David is survived by his three children, his seven grandchildren: Alex and Erik Price, Max Mohr, and Dean, David, Amelia and Jack Helmick, and his five great grandchildren: Lillian, Nolan and Adelaide Price, and Henry and Emma Helmick. A viewing will be held Friday, April 5 at the Pleasant Valley 5th Ward, 5735 South Crestwood Drive, Ogden Utah from 9:30 - 10:45. Funeral service will follow at 11:00. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
