Our loving, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, Dee Jay Thompson, 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 17, 2024 in Perry, Utah. He was born Sept. 13, 1935 in Logan, Utah, a son of David and Violet Thompson. He was raised in Cache County where he learned the importance of a strong work ethic at an early age. He graduated from Logan High School and Utah State University before serving in the US Army.
Dee Jay married Sharon Spendlove on July 17, 1964 in the Logan Utah Temple. He worked in Thiokol's Accounting Dept. for nearly 35 years. When not at work, Dee Jay was busy as a handyman and working with his best friends Dean Richards, and later, Elmo Christensen.
Dee Jay was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He had a strong testimony of the Savior, gospel, family history, and scouting work. Dee Jay provided many years of service through leadership, teaching, and missionary callings. He loved the friendships he made in his Stake Financial Clerk (11 yrs), and ward clerical and Bishopric callings. Dee Jay and Sharon's mission to Sixth Crossing Wyoming in 2004 utilized many of their talents and built new, lasting friendships.
Dee Jay was a talented musician, playing his guitar and singing for roadshows, family, and friends. His other hobbies included leatherworking, journaling, and reading. Dee Jay was happiest when he was making and doing things for others.
Dee Jay and Sharon enjoyed many vacations and snowmobiling trips with family and their friends from Bear River. They loved Yellowstone National Park and visited many times over the years.
Surviving are his daughter, Vanese (Brad) Bennett; son, Dean (Mica) Thompson; his sister JeNae (Lynn) Erickson; brothers-in-law Verl Spendlove and Randy (Cathy) Williams; and sisters-in-law Wilda Thompson, Carol Petersen, Silvia Spendlove, and Myrna (Jack) Schwieder; five
grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Dee Jay was welcomed into his heavenly home by his eternal companion, Sharon, and numerous family and friends.
All services will be held at the Bear River 2nd ward, 5870 N 4700 W Bear River City, UT. The viewing from 6-8 PM, Friday, February 23rd, and 9:30-10:30 AM, Saturday, February 24th, 2024; followed by a funeral at 11 AM, that will also be streamed online. Interment will be at the Bear River City Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Combined Veterans of Box Elder
The family wishes to thank Beehive Assisted Living for Dee Jay's transition care for the past 14 months. He and our family made wonderful friendships with Mandi, her amazing staff, and residents at Beehive. We also want to thank Rachel and the team at Bristol Hospice for their help and support.
