Dee W. Mitton passed away Saturday, August 25, 2018 in Brigham City, Utah. He was born March 7, 1924 in Brigham City, Utah, the son of William and Alga Mitton. He was raised in Mt. Sterling, Utah and attended school in Wellsville and Hyrum. He was drafted into the US Army Air Force during World War II and served in North Africa and Italy.
He married Mary Evadeane Hill, Sept. 14, 1945, in Logan Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple. He worked as a carpenter building and remodeling homes with his father in law. He worked for the Bureau of Reclamation and retired from the Intermountain Indian School, where he was employed with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, as a carpenter, and maintenance manager.
As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he has served in many positions, including counselor in several Bishoprics, executive secretary, finance clerk and many years in Scouting. Dad and mom served as ordinance workers in the Ogden Temple for six years.
In his early years he worked on many ranches, riding the rails (without a ticket) from state to state, he loved rodeos, he was an extra in an Old Western movie, he also enjoyed hunting, camping, fishing, and woodworking. He especially loved spending time with his family.
He is survived by his children: Elnora and Lee Collings, Connie and Harold Brown, Dee Ann and Ralph Clark, Marilyn and Rue Rasmussen and Brent and Laura Mitton. He has 17 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 20 great-great grandchildren, four step great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren and their spouses. He is also survived by his three brothers, Don (Shirley), Kay (Renee), DelRoy (Sidney). His is preceded in death by his wife Evadeane; his parents; his sister Odean, brother Jay, granddaughter Sheila Crisp, grandsons David, Gary, and Michael Clark.
We as a family would like to express our love and appreciation to the staff, CNA's and friends, of Gables II Assisted Living and also the Integrity Hospice nurses, who showed him such love and respect as they cared for him.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City, Utah.
Viewings will be held on Friday, August 31, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral chapel.
Interment will be in the Wellsville Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded by the Combined Honor Guard of Box Elder County.
