Dorothy Hansen

December 22, 1933 — November 10, 2023

Dorothy E Hansen Dorothy Evelyn Harwood Hansen, our beloved mother and grandmother passed away at the age of 89 due to the effects of just being worn out November 10, 2023 in Farr West, Utah. She was born December 22, 1933 to Frank and Hazel (McMullen) Harwood in Vernon, British Columbia, Canada. She had a delightful childhood despite living through the great depression with her sister Doreen and countless cousins living on the Okanagan lake. She attended school in Vernon Distinct #22 and graduated with a concurrent degree in business. She, her mother and sister were baptized members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when she was 17 years old. After high school, with special permission she served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Western Canadian Mission. After her mission she moved to Mesa, Arizona to study art under the direction of the LDS church for a year. She returned home to help care for her mother after surgery and then a year later settled in Rexburg, Idaho as a secretary to the Ricks College (BYU Idaho) Music Department while attending college. March 29, 1957 Dorothy and H. Delmar Hansen were sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple and together started their family in Rexburg. They are the parents of Christine (Roger) Durst, Tim (Cheryl) Hansen & Harold (Joleen) Hansen. Dorothy was a hard worker and employed in many secretarial positions in Rexburg. She also was very creative and had a touch of artistry in her. In 1969 she started her own wedding catering business in Rexburg that served surrounding areas including Star Valley, Wyoming. Upon moving to Pocatello, Idaho in 1975 she worked for Atkin Floral as one of their top floral designers. Then once again moving to Soda Springs, Idaho in 1976, she became the owner and head designer of Chase Floral. She was an amazing designer and had the magic to make everything look beautiful and feel special. Moving to Evanston, Wyoming with Delmar’s work, she was employed as financial manager in a medical office. Lastly Delmar and Dorothy moved to Brigham City, Utah to retire and be closer to their family. Dorothy was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints serving in many capacities including, Relief Society president, Primary president, Primary teacher, YW leader, Temple worker in the Ogden LDS Temple and library coordinator. Her biggest joys were her family that she fiercely loved including 9 grandchildren and her 18 “grands” as she called them. She loved family gatherings and playing games. She largely enjoyed the holidays, especially Christmas! She always went the extra mile to make them special for not only her own family, but for other families as well. In her later years she worked 6 years at Mountain View Elementary in Brigham City, Utah as a paraprofessional helping students with the Intervention and Guided Reading groups. She put her heart and soul into helping “her” students be their best with enthusiasm. She loved them dearly. Dorothy was an advocate for the underdogs and those who needed help. She found ways to serve wherever she lived and help those who were “unseen” in her community. She leaves a legacy of serving with love! We would like to thank Rocky Mountain Hospice and The Seasons in Farr West for their excellent and compassionate care. Dorothy is survived by her 3 children, 8 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Doreen Arpacci, her husband Delmar Hansen, and her grandson Jordan Hansen.
