Elmer Call

April 21, 1933 — January 9, 2024

Elmer James (Jim) Call passed Jan.9 2024 in Brigham City, Utah. Jim was born April 21,1933 in Sidney Nebraska, the son of Elmer & Pearl Twist Call. His family moved to Utah, at the age of 12 he received permission from his parents to be baptized, after being introduced to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He remained actively involved and continued strong as he dealt with the ups and downs of life. In his retirement years, he served several Service Missions in the Salt Lake & Ogden areas. He maintained good health thru-out his life. He loved nature, the outdoors, hunting, fishing, hiking & camping, where he taught his family to “leave the place cleaner than he found it.” He was an avid Scouter. He encouraged many young people to improve themselves thru the scouting program and his children enjoyed the adventures along the way. He also liked traveling, visiting with people, and going to the Temple. During the Korean War he served in Japan as a Signal Core Specialist. After the war he married Betty Bingham, lived in Riverdale, Utah and worked in Ogden with his father at Call Electric Motor. Later divorced, he met and married Verdell Harvey Pace and they moved to Mink Creek, Idaho. He found work as machine maintenance at Presto, while also farming their property in Mink Creek's beautiful canyon. He kept busy with family, community, church, farming, service calls, employment and building projects. After he retired in 1998, they moved to Perry, Utah. Jim knew that family is important and got pleasure re-telling the stories of both his family adventures and the families he watched growing up under his care as a father. He led an admirable example for the loads of 'Grands' to follow. He loves them all. His smile will be missed. He was preceded in death by his wife Verdell, parents Elmer & Pearl Call, a sister Eleanor Blodgett, 2 brothers Daryl Call & Keith Call. He’s survived by his children of his 1st wife, Betty Bingham Kearl: Calvin (Karen) Call, Sharrie (Jim) Webster, Pat (Grant) Moses, Mike (Cori) Call, Scott Call. Children of 2nd wife Verdell Harvey Pace: Jodi (Jim) Pace- Smith, Paula Monical, Wynette Pace, Preston Call, a sister Jan ( Lowell) Farr, and sister-in -law Joan Call and lots of relatives who are grateful for his desire to start the Call Reunions, which has continued every fall for many years.
