Emily Elizabeth (Blaine) Leavitt was born on January 6, 2001in Orem, Utah as the first of five children to Nathan and Jennifer Blaine. She lived in Provo the first three years of her life while her father completed school. Following his graduation and a few years in Albuquerque, New Mexico her family relocated to Mantua, Utah in 2007. She attended Mountain View, Promontory, and Box Elder High School, where she graduated as Valedictorian in 2019. Mantua was the perfect place for this adventurous, active youth and she learned to love hiking, skiing, swimming, soccer and mountain climbing, she summited the Grand Teton twice.
Although as a youth she got car sick, she loved to travel. This love came from the long car rides to visit grandparents, aunts and uncles and many cousins. Emily was always up for an adventure and loved to learn and experience new things. She was a certified scuba diver, avid hiker and always on the move.
Emily participated in many sports during her youth. One of her favorite activities was being on the swim team. She had a goal to make it to State every year and while she got close, she never quite made it. She used that experience to grow and learn like most of life’s most difficult lessons. She shared a love of the outdoors with her entire family and was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Emily has many talents. She was a poet, seamstress, and painter. She has played violin from the age of 12. She had the same love of learning as her mother and could often be found quietly reading books to fill that love. She was an amazing, diligent and dedicated student with a 4.0 GPA in both high school and college. Emily was two semesters away from graduating with a bachelor's degree in neuroscience from Brigham Young University. She excelled in most things by making sacrifices, working hard, and starting with the end in mind. She had many friends with whom she loved to spend time especially in the outdoors, camping, hiking and exploring. She met a friend named Zach that she went tunnel singing with prior to her serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in Columbia, South Carolina June 2020 to December 2021. During her mission she grew closer to the Lord and learned how to let Him direct her in all things.
Upon returning from her mission, Emily met Zach again and was immediately drawn to him. She became excited about the next chapter in her life - the handsome and charming Zach Leavitt. She and Zach were married and sealed for time and all eternity on August 13, 2022, and celebrated with a trip to Greece for their honeymoon. Zach and Emily were madly in love. Emily was up for any adventure that Zach would propose and had the energy to match his. They enjoyed each and every moment together and she was soon to start what she hoped would be her last year of college. They were set for one last adventure before classes began.
Emily’s life plan met an unanticipated major shift on Friday, September 1, 2023, in a tragic head-on collision with a semi-truck on her way to meet family members for a hike in the Tetons. She was killed on impact along with her mother, sister and husband Zach. Their work in this life was completed at that time.
The family would like to thank all those who have shown such love and compassion during this time of grief and also thank those who were on the scene of the tragic accident for all of their help.
Emily (age 22) is survived by her father Nathan Blaine and her brothers, Benjamin, Deven, and Bronco. She is also survived by the wonderful Leavitt family, Doug, Tracy, Sarah, Emily, Samuel, Rachel and Brigham. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Zachary Leavitt, her beautiful mother Jennifer, her little sister Denali and their family dog Peaches.
