Enos Bennion

April 1, 1933 — March 7, 2018

Enos Leland Bennion passed away at home on March 7, 2018, surrounded by his family. He was born in Vernal, UT on April 1, 1933 to Enos Leland (Lee) Bennion and Beatrice Murray Bennion. He was raised on farmland in Vernal, Naples, and Davis Ward with his cousin. Patty Jane and his younger brother and sister, David and Carol. Enos graduated from Uintah High School and was active in sports. He graduated from Utah State University in 1956 where he participated in ROTC, intramural sports, and Sigma Chi Fraternity. After graduation, he married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Robins, on October 18, 1956. They were later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple. Enos and Marilyn spent their first two years together at White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico while Enos served in the military. In 1958, they moved to Brigham City, UT where Enos worked for Thiokol Chemical Corporation as a program manager on rocket motor systems. Enos and Marilyn made many lifetime friends during this time. He returned to Vernal on weekends for many years where he continued to work on the family farms. Enos and Marilyn were devoted to raising their daughters, Susan and Annette, and kept close ties with family in Vernal. In 1994, Enos and Marilyn built a cabin near Flaming Gorge Dam in Daggett County, UT. Their mountain house has been a beloved gathering place for many friends and family. Enos was always the spark of the party and a great host. He grew beautiful gardens and landscapes. He shared his love and knowledge about the great outdoors with his family. He was a master at teaching his grandchildren many skills, including how to work. Enos loved fishing, boating, skiing, golfing, and he enjoyed a good game of cards. He supported the performing arts and loved sports. His biggest hobby was whatever his grandchildren loved and participated in at the time. Enos served on the Eagle Mountain Golf and Country Club Board, the Thiokol Retirees Association, and as President of the Flaming Gorge Pines Homeowners Association in Greendale, UT. Enos and Marilyn have enjoyed a wonderful circle of friends and a close extended family throughout their lifetime. Enos' top priority was spending time with family and friends. He had a generous and kind spirit, assuring that fun was had by all planning thoughtfully and working hard to make things easier for his family and others. Enos was preceded in death by his parents. His legacy will be carried on by Marilyn? his daughters Susan (Ken) Johnsen? Annette (Craig) Whitaker? and his grandchildren: Nathan, Matthew, Kristen Johnsen and Jason, Jonathan, and Brandon Whitaker. He is also survived by his brother David K. Bennion? sister Carol Lee Palmer? and his cousin Patty Jane Eliasen Barber. A viewing will be held from 6-8 pm on Thursday, March 15, 2018 at Gillies Mortuary at 634 East 200 South in Brigham City, UT. The viewing will continue on Friday, March 16, at 10 am with the funeral beginning at 11 am in the Perry Stake Center Chapel at 685 West 2250 South, Perry, UT. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
