Etta Mowers Halling

July 4, 1934 — March 17, 2022

Mantua - Edna (Etta) Mowers Halling, age 87 passed peacefully from this life in her beloved home on March 17, 2022. She was born on July 4, 1934 in her grandparents home in Arimo, Idaho. She was the daughter of lsaac Henry Mowers and Edna Elizabeth Fink. Etta was raised in Hawkins Basin, west of Arimo, Idaho by loving parents. She grew up with 2 brothers, Charles and Orvel and two older half sisters Mearl and Helen (Hap). She attended the rural Hawkins Basin school until 8th grade. She attended Arimo High School in Arimo. In the winter, they would stay with their grandparents or other relatives through the week because of the snow and bad roads. During her senior year of high school, she met a handsome school teacher who came to Arimo for his first year of teaching, Clair Halling. They courted that year and on August 7, 1951 they were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple. Clair took her to his hometown, Mantua, Utah to a home he had bought. She thought that she had been made a queen! Her new home not only had electricity, it had indoor plumbing, an inside bathroom and a furnace! She decided that she would never leave her home, and that is where she lived for the next 70 years. Etta first and foremost loved her family. She loved animals, especially horses. One summer while Clair was away on a trip with the Boy Scouts, she bought a horse. Good old Blondie that she loved to ride bareback. Blondie became a part of the family. Clair decided not to fight it and dutifully fed her the milk cows hay for many years. Etta was especially fond of her flowers, especially her peonies that came from Germany. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and reading. She knew how to sew and taught each of her daughters the art. She loved watching Jazz games on TV. Etta and Clair were active members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in different callings in the Primary, Young Women's and Relief Society. After Clair passed away in 1989, she served as an ordinance worker in the Ogden Temple. She loved this opportunity to serve and treasured the many friends she made there. She had a testimony of the gospel and knew from many personal experiences, the power of prayer. Etta was the mother of ten children, eight daughters and two sons. Clair needed boys to help run the small farm, but the girls also learned how to drive the tractor for Dad when he needed to haul hay. Etta loved working on the farm when she didn't have babies to care for. She is survived by eight children; Loraine (Kent) Crofts of Paradise, UT, Elaine (Kim) Munk of Wellsville, UT, Dean (Marilyn) Halling of South Ogden, UT, Sharon (Kirk) Smith of Mantua, Mary (Steve) Huthman of Mantua, Rose Marie (Chad) Wilson of Mantua, Marlene (Doug) Wyatt of Perry, UT, and Darlene (JR) Petersen of Wellsville, UT. A daughter-in-law, Nancy Halling, an older sister Helen (Hap) Allen, sisters-in-law, Peggy Mowers, Jeri Mowers, Karen Halling, a brother-in-law, Robert Wallentine, and many nieces and nephews. She considered her greatest legacy to be her children, 42 grandchildren, 83 great grandchildren, with three more coming this summer, and two great-great granddaughters! She was preceded in death by her husband Clair, son Jim, daughter Judy, her parents, two brothers and a sister. For the past five months Etta received wonderful care from IHC Hospice care givers. In January, Noa Saafi moved into her home to be her full-time care giver. Noa 's service of love, has been a tremendous blessing to the family. We wish to extend our love to all of those who cared for Etta and for the many hours of service by members of the community.
