Eugene Seward Kennington passed away July 17, 2018.
Gene was born August 26, 1930 in Afton Wyoming to George Seward, and Martha Weber Kennington the eleventh of thirteen children. He spent most of his youth in Star Valley, and after his father passed away he worked various jobs to help support his family during the depression. He graduated from Star Valley High school and served in the Southern States Mission for the LDS church. After returning from his mission he joined the US Air Force in 1953. He was assigned to the 5th command squadron in Fukuoka Japan. After serving in Japan he was sent to Hill Air Force Base where he was introduced to his wife Colleen C. Carlos. They were married June 30, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple. In 1956 they welcomed their son George, and in 1958 their daughter Kaylene. He received an honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1961. He then attended Utah Sate University, and graduated with a degree in Psychology. He taught at Intermountain Indian School in Brigham City, retiring in 1981. Gene and Colleen went on to serve a mission in Albuquerque New Mexico, working on the reservation. They were also Temple workers in the Ogden Temple for many years. Dad was a quiet humble man who loved his Savior Jesus Christ. He had a strong testimony of the Gospel and his knowledge of the scriptures was astounding. He also loved long walks, painting pictures, exploring the mountains and desert, reading...about anything, and serving others, especially his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and eleven siblings, his sweetheart Colleen, and grandson Cade Wyatt. He is survived by his children, George Seward Kennington and Kaylene Kennington (John) Hull, his brother, Craig, 7 grandchildren, and 15 great grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank Encompass Hospice, especially Taylor and Lara for all of their concern and care.
A visitation will be held at Gillies Funeral Chapel July 25, 2018 at 10:00, with a graveside service at 11:00 at the Brigham Cemetery.
