Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, son and friend passed away peacefully in Brigham City on August 20, 2019 at the age of 89 surrounded by his family.
Glen Leland Baron Jr. was born September 28, 1929 to Glen L. Baron Sr. and Virginia Nye in Brigham City, Utah.
Everyone knew Glen Baron Jr. as Lee. Lee was an only child, but grew up with his best friend Bob Pett (deceased), who was like a brother to him. They remained best friends throughout their lives.
Lee attended Lincoln Grade School and Box Elder Jr. and Sr. High School. Lee served in the 1st National Guard and was called to fight in the Korean War. While in Korea, he was made a 1st Sergeant. His troop was blessed to not be harmed in any way. They all returned home safely to Utah. When he left to come home, he was a 1st Lieutenant.
Lee met his sweetheart, Roberta “Bobbie” Elizabeth Young in Brigham City. They were married on January 13, 1954. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Utah Temple. They were blessed to have 7 children. Lee and Bobbie were able to spend time camping, boating and enjoying every outdoor activity with their family. They just celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this year. Great memories were made as his grandchildren sat with Grandpa Lee and Grandma Bobbie on the front porch just “watching the world go by.”
Lee was very active in sports of all kinds. He especially loved hunting with his sons and father. Lee was a talented artist and his paintings line the walls of his home, and the homes of his family. Lee had great pride in his home, especially loved to work in his garden and flower beds He shared the bounty of the garden with all.
Lee was a true and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served in many callings and lived the gospel in every aspect of his daily life. He led others to by example and love. He loved genealogy and family history work. Many have learned from him and truly treasure time spent with him performing this work.
Lee graduated from Utah State University with a degree in Landscape Architecture. He was the Campus Planner for 10 years and taught Landscape Architecture. After 10 years at USU, Lee was employed by the US Forest Service. He designed many beautiful camping and recreation areas within the Western United States. Lee received many awards for his design work, one being Perception Park in Ogden Canyon. Lee designed it especially for the disabled to be able to enjoy the beauty there. Lee, along with many forest personnel worked long hours bringing to fruition the beauty that is now Upper Mesa Falls in Island Park, Idaho. Soon the walkways, stairs and the overlook of the falls began to take shape. They also designed an area for those with disabilities to be able to enjoy the view of the falls as well. When visiting the Falls, Lee took tourists in wheelchairs to the overlook to gain a closer perspective of the Falls. They sobbed when they found they could join the others and see that glorious scene. One of Lee’s sons was the last to be able to have his wedding performed there on the overlook area with the great falls as the backdrop. Word soon spread and now thousands and thousands of visitors have walked to this wonderful place and have enjoyed each step towards the magnificent falls because of his design work. He was awarded Designer of the Year for this project. He retired from the USFS in 1993.
Lee is survived by his wife, Bobbie, children: Ron (Elena), Jean (Paul), Sue (Scott), Jill (Lyle – deceased), Rich (Lori), Ty (Cass), 44 grandchildren, 65 great-grandchildren 4 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded by his parents, infant son Randy, grandson Tommy, and son-in-law Lyle (Jill) Erickson.
The family wishes to express their love and appreciation to the Staff at Pioneer Care Center, where he was always treated with kindness and dignity. Lee gained many friendships there.
