It is with broken hearts and true sorrow that we announce the death of the unforgettable JaDee Brent Moncur. He was killed in the crash of flight 445 outside of Nome, Alaska, on February 6, 2025.
JaDee Brent Moncur was born on March 20, 1972, in Powell, Wyoming. He was raised on the family farm outside of Lovell, Wyoming. His parents are Darlene and Brent Moncur. He was the second of 6 children. His siblings are EmRee, AshLee, CaMee, MitChell, and JanaLee. The farm was always bustling with cattle, cousins, and allergies.
He graduated from Lovell High School in 1990. He was the High School State Champion for the 3200 relay team in track and field. He continued his running career at BYU. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Salta, Argentina. He attended BYU and served as the Vice President of the BYU Alumni Association. He graduated in 1996 as a mechanical engineer. He married Nicole Smith on July 12, 1996. They later divorced. After moving to Delaware they welcomed their first son, Carter Brent Moncur. In 1999, they moved back to Utah and welcomed Ethan Earl Moncur and eventually Olivia Campbell Moncur. In 2008, the big Alaskan Adventure began!
JaDee was sealed to Stacey Peterson Moncur in the Brigham City, Utah, LDS Temple, on October 18, 2013.
JaDee was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He served as a leader in the Scouting and young men’s organizations. Serving as a primary teacher was one of his favorite callings, rivaled only by attending girls camp for 8 years! He taught youth Sunday School, served as the Anchorage Alaska LDS temple cleaning coordinator, and a member of several bishoprics. At the time of his death, he was serving as the Bishop of the Mount Baldy Ward.
JaDee lived his life to the fullest! He loved combat fishing on the Russian River with his daughter, Olivia. It was only considered quality fishing if there were bears fishing next to you.
He enjoyed pack rafting with anyone that would go with him! He was always happy to use every resource available to find missing pack rafts for friends.
For Mother’s Day, JaDee gave Stacey an amazing gift - an ocean boat! He named it “Chasing Tail” as he always looking for a salmon, halibut, and whales! When halibut “hunting”, he liked to use a bow and arrow to secure his catch! He loved taking Ethan, Olivia, and Carter out to see the glaciers and look for a whole family of otters.
After he loaded up the boat, he would hit the road. JaDee loved his motorcycles. In fact, he loved them so much that “Stacey” got one for Mother’s Day. Olivia was the only one brave enough to ride on the back with him! She would go anywhere with him.
Roads freezing over was the best time of the year- time to get out the Snow Machines! From his humble beginnings of a rundown 250 he graduated to a dual turbo charged 800 RMK Polaris. His favorite days on the mountains were those spent with those he loved. When he was with a group, he was always the last one, making sure that everyone was safe and would return home. He packed extra tools, gear, and parts to dig out other riders. For him there was nothing better than the taste of a burrito smoked with 2 stroke oil.
When the snow melted the mountains called his name. Crow Pass was a mighty adventure. It was hard enough to hike it with Ethan and Carter, so we were shocked when he decided to run it for “fun”. Twice he ran the 24 miles, climbed the 2100 feet of elevation, and crossed 3 glacial rivers all in less than 4 hours – just to get the glory of having his name on the t-shirt!
Ninilchik was his favorite way to start the summer! Memorial Days were spent fishing in the river and on the ocean! The annual father son camp outs were always an experience! His Crow Pass time was nothing compared to the sprint he went on to find a lost Ethan on Carter’s Lake before the bears found him!
Hunting with his brothers and friends was always on the schedule - bear, birds, caribou, and the elusive bull moose!
No matter the season JaDee loved taking to the skies! For Father’s Day, Stacey gave him a plane. The plane was a rite of passage for visitors and family alike. Once you had gone for a ride, you had proven that you were brave enough for Alaska!
JaDee found great joy in helping everyone – whether he knew them or not. He was the man that everyone called when they needed something fixed.
JaDee lived his life doing what he loved. Serving, flying, riding, playing, loving, and working hard. Our world is much smaller without him in it. We love him and are so grateful we have eternity to spend with him. He is missed. He is loved. He is remembered – the unforgettable JaDee Moncur!
