Our Loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and dear friend, Janet Abel Cosgrove, returned to the open arms of our Heavenly Father on August 10 2023.
Janet was born in her home on March 31, 1932, to Dewey and Ella Kent Abel in Cornish, Utah. Even at an early age, Janet’s light shone brightly for all to see. Janet and her siblings Joyce Carpenter (twin sister), LaMar Abel, Dean Abel, Blaine Abel, Helen Richmond, and Dennis Abel attended Cornish Elementary, Lewiston Jr. High, and North Cache High School. Janet's first paying job during high school was at Del Monte cannery in Idaho. Upon graduation, Janet worked as a checker at Albertsons in Idaho with her older brother. Her family later moved to Brigham City, Utah, where Janet worked as a telephone operator for eight years. During that time, she met the love of her life, Darrell Charles Cosgrove. The two were married on April 1, 1955, and sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Janet and Darrell were blessed with three sons, David Darrell, William Scott, and Robert Dewey (Tina).
Janet lived a life full of love and service towards our Heavenly Father and those around her. She was friends to all, and seldom a day went by that she wasn’t cooking or baking for someone in need, which led her to work at the Brigham City Hospital in Food Services and on to opening a catering company with 4 of her dear friends. Janet loved and served the members of the Brigham City 3rd Ward in various callings all of her married life. Her love of the Lord and his gospel was apparent in all she did. Her example will be a legacy passed down to all her posterity. Janet’s greatest joy was spending time with her sweetheart, children, and grandchildren. She and Darrell had eight grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren.
Janet spent the last eight years living at Maple Springs in Brigham City, Utah. As a family, we cannot express enough gratitude to the residents and staff who loved Janet like family. We greatly appreciate Tender Care Hospice, who helped Janet transition from this life to the next with dignity and grace. A special thank you to Janet's friends and family, who touched her life for the better.
