JOAN SKINNER WENDEL

Joan Dover Skinner Wendel, 90, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 19, 2025 surrounded by her family at her home.

She was born on January 29, 1935 in Cedar City, Utah, a daughter of William Bryant and Zola Smith Dover. She graduated from Cedar High School in 1952. She furthered her education at the College of Southern Utah where she was the valedictorian. The family moved to Brigham City, where she taught English at Box Elder High School. While teaching in Brigham City, she attended Utah State University where she earned her Master’s in English Literature. She then attended University of Utah earning her Doctorate of Law Degree in 1984.

She married Robert Howard Skinner on December 19, 1952 in St. George, Utah. They were later divorced. Joan married Robert Henry Wendel on April 19, 1986 in Perry, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Brigham City Temple.

Joan worked at the Arizona Attorney General office and retired in 1992.

She enjoyed quilting, reading and being with her family.

Surviving are her five children, Howard (Carol) Skinner; Elizabeth (Kim) Dodge; Paul (Vicki) Skinner; Lucy (Russ) Payne; Gordon (Celeste) Skinner; 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one great great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Bob, one granddaughter, Jennifer Cox, great grandson, Logan Dodge and three siblings, Geraldine Osborne, Anna Marie Hirschi and William Boyd Dover.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 E 200 S., Brigham City, Utah, where the services will be livestreamed: go to Joan Wendel's obituary for livestream.

A viewing will be held on Saturday from 9:00 to 10:30 am at the funeral chapel.

Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
