Joseph Curfew

February 13, 1970 — December 26, 2023

Joseph Dee Curfew, 53, passed away December 26, 2023 in Garland, UT after a courageous 3 month battle with Mixed Phenotype Acute Leukemia (MPAL). Joe never lost hope during this battle and was supported by wonderful family members and friends as he fought this disease up until the very end. Joe was born on February 13, 1970 in Tullahoma, Tennessee to loving parents John Herbert Curfew and Julia Ann Anderson. Joe was proud to be born on “Friday the 13th”. His lucky number was “13” which is associated with independence, creativity, and focus, three traits he was very proud of. Joe was welcomed at birth by a brother, David, and sisters Tina, LeiLani, Julie, and Cassie. Several years later he became a big brother to his baby sister, Sarah. Joe had a happy childhood and learned the importance of hard work at a young age. During this time, he lived in Southern Tennessee and in several cities in Eastern and Northern Utah including Jensen, Layton, and Willard. While living in Willard, Joe got his first ‘real’ jobs working for Larry’s Service and for the Willard Grocery Store where he learned the value of a dollar and was proud to help support his family. Joe attended local elementary schools, junior high and graduated from Newport Pacific High School in 1988. After graduation he worked at Harmon’s Grocery Store learning many new skills such as deli cook, baker, and how to stock and manage inventory. At this time, he developed a love for serving and helping others and became a Volunteer Firefighter and EMT for Willard City. This passion led him to the Weber State Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) Academy where he graduated in 1993. He was honored to serve the communities he loved as a Police Officer for Willard PD and Ogden City PD. Later, he worked for Box Elder County as a Bail Commissioner and for Ogden Regional Hospital as a Security Guard. Joe was a man of many skills and worked for several Auto Body shops restoring classic cars and in fabrication at AES and Barnes Aerospace. He also worked for Ormond Construction as a Dump Truck Driver, and at Precise Innovations as Heavy Equipment Operator. His “hobby” was cooking at J&D’s restaurant in Brigham City, UT where he made many friends. As an adult, Joe lived in Ogden, Huntsville, Willard, Evanston WY, McAllen TX, and Jensen UT where he loved staying with his aunt Tamara and helping his cousins on the family farm. Joe was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was a proud American who loved the USA, big trucks, rodeos, classic cars, the outdoors, cooking, the color green, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, his girls, and his 2-year-old grandson - he had BIG plans for their future and was so excited to finally have a ‘son’. Joe is survived by his four daughters, Haley Jo (Clayton), Kendalle, Karli, and Kennedy; his grandson, Gunnar; his brother, David, sisters LeiLani (Bryan) and Sarah (Brandon); brothers-in-law Allen and Aron; his Aunt Tamara; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is also survived by his son (by choice), Trevis Taylor, whom he had a close bond with. Joe is preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; sisters Tina, Julie, and Cassie; and his Brother-in-Law, Wil. Joe’s daughters would like to thank the staffs at LDS Hospital Blood and Bone Marrow Unit, The Gossner Cancer Clinic, and Intermountain Home Health and Hospice for the wonderful medical care he received. They would also like to thank Sean & Theresa Mathis for their kindness; Allen, Bob, Reid, and Mike for checking in and visiting with Dad often; Sharon, Summer, Sheri, and LeiLani for their help in getting Dad to chemotherapy treatments and transfusions; and the Brandon & Sarah Booth family (Holly, Sami, Zoey, Lexi, Bowdrie, and Hadley ) for their love and support during this difficult time. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 30th, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 E 200 S., Brigham City, UT. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 am at the funeral chapel. Joe will be laid to rest in his beloved hometown of Willard, Utah. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to offset funeral costs his girls are incurring. The “Joseph Dee Curfew – Funeral Expenses” GoFundMe has been established to assist in funeral expenses.
