Karen Anderson Leatham Halling passed away peacefully in her sleep on August 8,
2023. Karen was born on July 25, 1939 in Wellsville, Utah. She was the daughter of William Leroy Leatham and Ferris Anderson Leatham. She had an older brother Roy, and an older sister named Marilyn.
She grew up in Wellsville surrounded by cousins. She moved to Bountiful, Utah her senior year and graduated from Bountiful High although she always considered herself a South Cache graduate.
In 1957 Karen married her eternal companion, Darwin Robert Halling. They lived in Hyrum, Tremonton, Dugway and then settled in Mantua, where they lived in the family home for the rest of their lives. There they were blessed with 4 sons and 2 daughters. Karen filled her time with raising her family, canning, quilting, service and spending time with family and being a 50+ year member of Rook Club.
During Karen's life she was in many church callings including: Relief Society President,
Primary President, Young Women's leader, and most importantly visiting teacher. Karen filled much of her time with service. She made meals for people and made bread and frequently gave it away. Karen filled her life with serving others and after her stroke so many served her back which is a great lesson to all of us.
Karen began working when her children were in school. She took a secretarial class and
did very well and got a job with Packer Realty. She worked there for a few years and then got a job at First Security Bank which later became Wells Fargo. Karen worked there for 15 years and was also in the Rocket Club, a club for women in business.
Karen retired and She and Darwin served a mission in the Chicago North Mission, in
Chicago, Illinois. Karen loved working with all of the missionaries in her mission. Both Karen and Darwin loved their mission.
Karen had a stroke in February of 2014. She spent 6 months in physical therapy and
then came home where the members of her ward walked with her 3 times a day for 1 year. Karen was able to walk until about 3 weeks before her death. Her family would like to thank the ward for their service to Karen and helping her walk, which was a great blessing to her for the remainder of her life.
Karen is preceded in death by her husband Darwin Robert Halling, Her siblings, Roy
Leatham and Marilyn Miller, her sons Brian Lynn Halling and Alan Ray Halling, and her
grandson, Braydon Russell Coburn as well as her daughter-in-law, Margie Halling.
She is survived by her children Karl Halling, Cora Lee (David) Wayman, Julie (Russell)
Coburn, Jon (Ricki-Lee) Halling, Many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The Funeral will be held at Mantua Cemetery with a viewing the hour before. The
funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 at 11:00 am. In case of inclement weather, the services will be held in the Mantua Church building on Willard Peak Road.
The family would like to especially thank Jill Wallentine for providing care the last 2
weeks mom was at home, they would also like to thank the Community Nursing Service
caregivers, in particular, Leora, Misti, and Jason for their time and loving care to their mom and the Gables staff for their loving care for our mother.
