Kathleen H. Wight passed away on Wednesday, March 8, 2023 at her home in Perry. She was born on June 17, 1941 to Richard and Erma Hansen. Mom was born and raised in Brigham City, and she had many happy childhood days with her sister Carolyn and her parents. Mom loved Brigham City and participated in many Brigham City and Peach Days celebrations and festivities.
Mom attended Box Elder High School and graduated in May 1959. She received honors and recognition while serving in numerous capacities at Box Elder and in Seminary. These included being the editor for the school newspaper and a delegate in the Mock United Nations. She also started dating her sweetheart and future husband Richard Wight.
Mom went on to attend Utah State University and graduated four years later with a degree in Elementary Education. Children were drawn to her because of her kindness and giving heart. She became a teacher and taught in both Weber and Box Elder School districts. She continued dating Richard Wight and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on July 26, 1963. She stopped teaching when she had her first of four sons, and became a full-time mother and homemaker.
Mom was very active as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served as a leader or in auxiliary roles in the Relief Society, Young Women’s, and Primary organizations as well as fulfilling many other church related callings.
Mom loved music. She sang just about every hymn in every sacrament meeting and encouraged her boys to do the same. She liked to play the piano and had many opportunities to share that talent in church. She also sang in an adult women’s choir for many years.
Mom’s favorite thing to do was spend time with her family and friends. It really didn’t matter what she was doing, as long as she was with us, she was content. She was the greatest fan at our games and our biggest fan at home as well. She held our family together, and as our family grows, she will continue to do so.
Surviving are her children: Douglas (Amy) Wight, David (Martha) Wight, Thomas (Naly) Wight, and Daniel Wight; Twelve grandchildren; One great grandchild; and her sister Carolyn Peterson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard Wight, and her great granddaughter Ava Lindsey.
Special thanks to Pam Daniels who took such great care of Mom, and to Canyon Hospice. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 17, 2023 at 12:00 at 2415 South 900 West, Perry, Utah. A viewing will be held that morning from 10:00-11:30 a.m. Interment will be at the Brigham City Cemetery.
