Kent Lloyd Nyman, 76, affectionately known as Buck to his friends and loved ones, passed away suddenly from a heart attack in his home on Thursday April 4, 2024. Kent was born on September 25, 1947 to Lloyd and Elizabeth “Beth” Nyman of Providence, Utah.
Kent lived a life filled with passion, laughter, and love. Kent met the love of his life, Carol Jean Smith, and they were married and sealed for time and all eternity in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple on September 12, 1969. From that day forward their bond grew stronger with each passing year, a testament to their enduring love and devotion.
Their early years were spent raising their children at the ballpark, where Kent’s passion for softball shone brightly. He not only excelled on the field but also shared his love for the game with his family, creating cherished memories that would last a lifetime.
Kent’s greatest joy in life was his family. HIs love for his family, especially his grandchildren, knew no bounds. Sunday afternoons spent with them were his favorite, filled with laughter, love, and the simple joy of being together.
Born with a natural talent for swinging the bat, Kent was inducted into the Softball Hall of Fame for his record of most home runs in one season, where he knocked more home runs out of the park than most could count.
Off the field, Kent brought joy and laughter wherever he went. Armed with a technical degree in Mechanics from Utah State University, he put his skills to work at Hill Air Force Base and LMC, ensuring that everything ran smoothly with a twinkle in his eye and a joke ready to go. HIs love for dad jokes was unmatched, and he had a knack for turning any moment into a comedic masterpiece.
Kent and Carol started square dancing in 1976. Kent called at the club amateur night in
November of 1983. He taught his first beginner class in the fall of 1984 and has been calling ever since. He has called full time for four clubs, Lace and Levi’s, Bridgerland Squares, Wild Bunch, and Rainbow Squares for a number of years. Kent recorded his first Square dance record in 1988 and has recorded many records and tapes since. Kent has served as President of the Northern Utah Caller’s association. He is a member of American Caller’s Association and spends many weeks travelling, calling square dances for clubs, and associations. He has called on cruise ships and even in foreign countries, bringing the joy of dance and music to countless people, leaving a trail of smiles in his wake.
Kent’s talents extended beyond the dance floor and sports arena. He was an avid camper, fisherman, and hunter, finding solace and adventure in the great outdoors. HIs Sundays were reserved for quality time with his beloved family and grandchildren, where he would regale them with tales of his softball triumphs, share his love for camping and fishing and make unforgettable memories that will be cherished forever.
Kent is survived by his wife Carol Nyman; his four children Jodie (Robert) Hunt, Lonnie, Jaime (Clark) Wiser, Trevor (Julie); 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers Kevin and Kyle Nyman and Sisters Gwen Hansen and Tana Downs. He was preceded in death by his parents.
