Kouko Shibata

February 18, 1930 — January 24, 2023

Our dear aunt Kouko Shibata, 92 passed away on January 24, 2023. Kouko was born to AI & SY Shibata, and was the 8th of 9 children raised in the small farming community of Garland, Utah. She graduated from Bear River High School and moved to Salt Lake City when she was 19. She worked in various businesses and insurance agencies. She ended her career at M&M Distributing, where she had a family of many friends and co-workers who always held a special place in her heart. Kouko’s hobbies were crocheting and ensuring everything was in immaculate condition and organized inside her house and out in her yard. She loved sports and attended Bees baseball, Golden Eagles hockey and Utah Jazz basketball games regularly and followed her favorite national league and college teams on TV. Kouko loved hamburgers and venturing out weekly for lunch with her nieces and friend Janie. She enjoyed her time and friendships at the Country Park Villas and was very appreciative of the community there and how they looked out for each other. Kouko was predeceased by her parents; brothers Joe, Saburo, Harry, George and sisters Teruko, Hatsuko Fujii, Yuki Sato and Kazuko Pogue She is survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Thanks to her healthcare professionals over the years, Dr. Julien, Dr. Ruth and Dr. Johnson. Thank you to the staff at Riverway, Stonehenge and Draper Rehab for their loving care in her last years. And special thanks to all of the i-Care hospice staff (Mackenzie, Alyssa).
