Laree Clarke Hill
Devoted Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Friend
Laree Clarke Hill, 84, passed away quietly on Friday, October 21, 2022. Through her last moments in mortality, she continued to share her love of family, sense of humor, and kind personality with all that were close to her.
Laree was born February 20, 1938, in Ogden, UT to Thomas and Eliza Clarke of Taylor Utah. She grew up on a farm in a two-bedroom home with one bathroom that accommodated eight family members. Thinning beats, hauling hay, picking tomatoes, and milking cows instilled in her a work ethic that followed her throughout her life and was, sometimes begrudgingly, passed on to her children. She loved the smell of warm bread, baking, home-made fudge, and making large meals three times a day.
Her life was punctuated with a talent and love for music. It began by listening to her “daddy” sing while playing his harmonica or accordion. Regularly the family would all get together around the piano and sing. Laree was an accomplished piano player throughout her life and regularly shared this talent through church callings, at home and at public events.
Laree was grateful for all the little things in life. She was taught by loving parents that people will always be more important than things. That is the way she lived her life. Anyone that met her would immediately be endeared to her selfless love and kindness. It was her habit to greet everyone, even strangers, with a compliment.
She attended Taylor and West Weber elementary schools. There was a special graduation for her class from Wahlquist Junior High as they represented the first group to complete 7th, 8th, and 9th grades at the new school. She was a graduate of Weber High School in 1956.
Laree was married to Reed Hill on March 7, 1957, in the Salt Lake Temple. She was attracted to Reed because of his testimony of the gospel and of course “he was a very handsome man.” Reed was always the life of the party and winked at
her constantly. They became the devoted parents of four children that were blessed to enter their home. Following Reed’s retirement, one of the wonderful experiences in their later lives was to serve a LDS Church Mission together to Palmyra, NY. They both had an extraordinary love of the gospel and cherished the people and time they served.
Laree’s greatest joy came from raising and loving her children and grandchildren. They were always the most beautiful, intelligent, industrious, wonderful and perfect children on the planet. (She had an incredible gift for selectively forgetting anything bad and focusing only on the good.)
Laree is survived by her husband Reed, her four children, Kevin (Mary Ann) Hill, Karen (Korry) Green, Larry (Jolene) Hill and Angie (Todd) Jones. Laree is also survived by her brother Allan (Shirley) Clarke and her sister Marian (Dee) Schenck. She was the proud grandmother of sixteen grandchildren and thirty-four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be available on Friday, October 28, from 6-8 pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints building located at 2280 N 3600 W Plain City, UT. A viewing will also be available at 9:30 am Saturday, October 29 prior to the funeral services that will begin at 11 am at the same (above) location.
