Leonard Ray Wood, our beloved Poppie, passed away suddenly on August 27, 2023, in Brigham City, Utah, with his wife and kids by his side.
Leonard was born May 31, 1956 in Hot Springs, Arkansas, the only child of Leonard and Linda Wood. He grew up in Mount Ida, where he played football in high school. He enlisted in the Navy in October of 1976, and served as a Boatswain's Mate aboard the USS Forrestal. He was honorably discharged from active duty in October 1979, then served briefly as a hometown recruiter in Hot Springs.
He worked for a time in Dallas, Texas, in the Sheriff's department, then became a truck driver based out of Amity, Arkansas. He met Rhonda Stephens in 1996, and they were married on June 27, 1999. They drove together until he was injured in 2013. They moved to Lehi, Utah, in 2016 to be near their grandkids, then moved again in 2021 to follow them to Brigham City, Utah.
He loved watching the Razorbacks, and followed them faithfully every season. He also loved to watch his grandkids; they were a bright spot in his life, and he loved and spoiled them.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father. He is survived by his wife Rhonda; his half-brothers Thomas Wood of Hot Springs and Michael Wood of Conway, and his half-sister Michelle Middleton of Hot Springs; his daughter and son-in-law Amanda and Cary Nicholas of Brigham City, and his grandchildren Tony, Cuauhtli, Yoalli, Gabby, Keeleigh, and Natalie.
Rest, Poppie, and enjoy the best seat in Razorback Stadium. We love you and will miss you terribly
