Dad joined the love of his life on Wednesday, February 7, 2024. LeRoy Hervin Ward was born on April 3, 1931, at the family home in Bloomington, ID. He was the last of eight children and the fourth son to George Henry and Clarissa Bunderson Ward. LeRoy was raised on a dairy ranch and graduated from Fielding High School in Paris, ID in 1949. He then attended Utah State University. While serving in the Louisianna/Texas Mission, he met Carol Petersen, and they dated after he got home and were married on April 20, 1953, in the Logan Temple. Together they had six children, Calvin (Cathy), Dorthy, Boyd, Lily (Glen) Jones, Don (Shara), and Brad (Tiauna).
LeRoy served in the U.S. Army from 1955-1957. He farmed in Bloomington until 1961. After that, they moved to Brigham City, and he worked as a mail carrier until 1989. When Dad retired, he and Mom temporarily moved to SLC where he worked as a gardener at Temple Square. They also held various church callings and served as missionaries on Temple Square.
LeRoy is survived by five children, 18 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol, infant son, Boyd, parents, brothers, and sisters. LeRoy was supportive of his family, he was active in the Sons of Utah Pioneers, and he was a faithful and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life.
The family would like to express our gratitude to Dorthy for all the tender, loving care she provided for Dad over the last several years.
