Maria Hernandez

Maria Rosario Salazar Hernandez, born June 12, 1944, was called home on Thursday, October 11, 2018, at the age of 74. Maria resided in Deweyville with her husband, Henry C. Hernandez. She raised her family in Brigham City, Utah, where she also started a business and attended church. 

Maria married the love of her life, Enrique "Henry" Chavez Hernandez, on December 27, 1964, in San Antonio, Texas. They briefly lived in Mesa, Arizona, before making Brigham City their home. Maria earned her cosmetology certificate from Hollywood School of Beauty, then went on to earn her Utah state license and started as a stylist at the Castle of Beauty in downtown Brigham City. Three years later, Maria started her own salon, Maria's Magic Mirror, where she continued until her retirement in 1996.

Our beloved wife and mother will be remembered by her husband of 53 years, Henry; her children: Celsie (Rob Day), Marie (Shawn Blauer), Yvette (Randy Lunday) and Enrique "Rick" Jr.; and 10 grandchildren: Brock (Miranda), Alexis, Zion, Derek, Sadie, Jenna, Kaden, Kaileigh, Markaell and Chloe. Maria excitedly anticipated the birth of her first great-grandchild in May 2019. Maria is also survived by her sister, Martha Perea (David), and brother, Hiram Leza, Sr. She was preceded in death by her parents, Teodoro and Alicia Salazar, and sister-in-law, Elva Leza. 

Viewing will be help Wednesday, October 17, from 6 to 8 pm, at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 E 200 S, Brigham City. A celebration of Maria's life will be held on Thursday, October 18, from 10 to 11 am. with the interment immediately following in the Brigham City Cemetery.
