Nancy Ann Morrell was born January 14, 1939 in Logan, Utah. From an early age she was active in and enjoyed school, loved to sew, and played the piano. She graduated from Box Elder High School in 1957. She attended BYU and got her bachelor's degree as a business teacher in June 1961. After teaching at Box Elder High School, she then returned to BYU to get a Master of Education degree and worked as a student teacher at BYU as she completed her degree.
While at BYU, she met Darryl M. Stewart and they were sealed in the Logan Utah Temple on December 18, 1964. Darryl and Nancy's earthly life together abruptly ended in 1969 when Darryl tragically died in an accident. After Darryl's death, Nancy returned to Brigham City where she raised their three children, living in her home for almost 50 years.
Upon returning to Brigham City, Nancy reconnected with several of her high school girl friends and felt truly blessed to be part of this amazing circle of women. They would meet regularly to share stories and offer support as they each raised their families.
Once Nancy's children were all in school, she returned to work as a teacher for the Box Elder School District. She taught the Brigham Office Occupational Training program (BOOT) for many years. After funding for the BOOT program ended, Nancy transferred to Bear River Middle School to teach keyboarding and computers until her retirement seven years later.
Nancy's home was always open to friends and family and she would spend many hours visiting with guests to her home while offering needed encouragement. She was affectionately called "Mom" by more than her own three children. She was a thoughtful listener, friend, and confidant to the countless friends who were blessed by her loving acts and words.
To many people in the Brigham City area, Nancy was known as the "Chocolate Lady" as she supplied thousands of pounds of quality dipping chocolate to the sweet-tooths in the community each year.
Over the years, Nancy became an avid sports fan. She rarely missed a Jazz game and closely followed news about the team. She always rooted for her Alma Mater but enjoyed cheering for all the Utah schools in both basketball and football.
Nancy loved sewing all her life. Her beautiful handwork was meticulous and elegant. Everything she sewed was made with care and quality. After retiring, humanitarian sewing projects became her passion and joy. Her tally notebook showed that since 2007, she made and donated 764 flannel scrap baby quilts; 143 Hemstitched and crocheted baby blankets; 1,224 loom hats; 178 plush footballs sewn; and 298 burps and bibs.
As an active and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Nancy taught and served in ward and stake Sunday School, Primary, Young Women's, and Relief Society callings. Her lessons were always focused on doctrine and thoughtfully prepared, allowing her to share her testimony in a profoundly personal way.
