Richard Pack Wilkins Jr.

It’s with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our Father, Son, Husband, Grandpa and Brother, Richard P Wilkins who succumbed to prostate cancer after a 7 year battle.

Rich was born December 6, 1958 in Dugway Proving Grounds, Utah to Richard P and Doris J (Howard)Wilkins. Rich loved to ride his motorcycle in the desert and loved spending time at the base swimming pool.

In March 1980, Rich married Tamara Hall. They had two children together, Richie and Adam. They were later divorced. Rich met and married Lisa Allred. They both loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping and riding the side by side in the mountains. Rich also enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson. Rich’s ultimate toy was flying his airplane. He logged hundreds of hours of flight time over a twenty year period. The highlight for him was flying his plane to Alaska where he spent a few weeks flying around different places there. 

Rich joined the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Department in 1980. He held many positions during his tenure there including corrections officer, Chief corrections officer and Deputy Sheriff. After 10 years, Rich left the Sheriff’s Department to go to an agency he had hoped to join, the Utah Highway Patrol. Rich worked for the Patrol for another 25 years. The last 15 years, Rich transferred to the Commercial vehicle safety bureau where he earned many accolades for his work which included Trooper of the year from the Utah Trucking Association. He was also selected to represent Utah as an associate staff member for the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration. He traveled around the country teaching hundreds of law enforcement officers about CMV safety. After retiring, Rich went back to work as a Safety Director for King Farms Trucking and Mountain States L.P. Gas. 

Rich loved spending time with his family especially his grandkids. Reagan, Colby, Carson, Caleigh, Makynlee and Valon was his world. They will greatly miss him. 

Rich was proceeded in death by his grandparents Hubert and Elva Howard, his father, Richard P Wilkins Sr. and his brother Russell. 

Rich is survived by his wife, Lisa. His son’s Adam (Angela),Springdale Arkansas , Richie (Mariah), Brigham City. His mom, Doris Land (Jim), Tooele. Step-sons Ryan Misrasi ,Tremonton, Travis (Megan) Misrasi, Garland. Sisters Robbin (Roy), West Jordan and Joi (Calie), Tooele. His many grandkids and many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins.

The family would like to thank the many Doctors and Nurses at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital for the compassionate care they gave Rich. He was so grateful to every one of them. We’d like to thank Stacey and Kari Prescott, Scott and Trudy Theobald and Bill and Connie Nickolii for the unwavering friendship you gave Rich. He loved you all so much. Also the many neighbors that helped Rich so much during his final years. 

A visitation will be held on Thursday, December 19, 2024 from 9-10:30am at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City.  A funeral service will follow at 11 am.  Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
