Ruth Fillmore Thomas

September 20, 1940 — June 10, 2024

Ruth Marie Fillmore Thomas September 20, 1940 – June 10, 2024 Ruth Thomas passed away on June 10, 2024 in Brigham City, Utah. She was born in Beaver, Utah September 20, 1940 to Lee R Fillmore and Chloe Farrer, the 3rd of six daughters. She was raised riding horses, gathering eggs, swimming in the ditch in the front yard and playing with her sisters and cousins. She attended schools in Beaver graduating as the Class Valedictorian in 1958. While in high school she was active in drama, oratory, debate, student Government and represented Beaver High at Utah Girl’s State. Ruth moved to Salt Lake to attend the Hollywood School of Beauty. She met her husband Richard Neal Thomas on a blind date, and they married in on October 1, 1960. They settled in Brigham City, Utah where Dick was employed with Thiokol. They rented two apartments, one on 5th West and then a duplex on 4th South before purchasing their first home on the corner of 3rd West and 200 South. Ruth was a hairdresser in Brigham for over 30 years. She owned/operated salons all over Brigham and worked with many great friends over the years. She loved doing hair and always packed her scissors and razors everywhere and could be found giving haircuts in hotel rooms, back porches, kitchens and anyplace that had a chair for someone to sit. She enjoyed being active in the Cosmetology professional groups in Utah and participated in many competitions in Utah and surrounding areas, bringing home many trophies and awards. She retired from hairdressing and worked at IRS in Ogden for 10 years before retiring. Ruth was active in the Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #2919 in Brigham City. Their mission of charity and motto of “For Home, For Country and For God” resonated in her and she shared her talents and time for many great causes and charities over the last 50 years. Sharing her many talents and fun personality was important for her, if you have a flower arrangement, quilt or other items made by her it was made with love. She held many offices within the Eagles including Past Madam President of the Brigham City Auxiliary. She supported Dick while he was a local officer of the Aerie and then when he was President of the Utah State Eagles Aerie. She loved staying busy and enjoyed quilting, crocheting, baking, camping, playing cards, rock hounding, swap meets, making jewelry, drinking coffee with friends, traveling and spending time with her beloved grandchildren. Ruth and Dick spent the last 15 winters in Arizona where they enjoyed shopping, rock shows, camping and spending time with family and friends. In 2016 they sold their home in Brigham and relocated to Washington, Utah. Dick preceded her in death in August 2018 and she stayed in the St. George area until July 2020 when she came home to Brigham. She was an amazing Mom, Wife, Grandma, Aunt, Sister, Cousin and friend to everyone. She leaves behind a devasted family that will always value her spirit, stubbornness, her red hair and so many great and happy memories we have with her. She will be missed by her Son Terry Thomas, Seattle, Daughter Valerie Aston (Brent Harrop), Brigham, Grandkids, Caleb Aston, Caden Aston (Danise Johnson), Nick Polack and Kyla Marie Polack. Her surviving sisters, Betsy Vaught, St. George and Kaylee Anderson, Kearns, Brothers in law Paul Thomas (Lisa) Colorado, Grant Thomas, Utah and Raymond (Susan) Baker, Utah and Sister-in-Law Shirley Thomas.
