We are here to celebrate the life of a man who was one of a kind, with a wacky personality and a wonderful heart. Scott Nelson passed away on Monday, September 4, 2023 following a stroke and heart complications. He was born in Brigham City, UT, on November 29, 1946. He then spent his days in Perry, Utah, spreading joy and creating memories that will be cherished forever.
Scott was a loving father, a creative soul, a supportive friend, and a compassionate human being. He dedicated his life to the noble profession of teaching, having worked with the Box Elder School District before his retirement. His passion for education was only rivaled by his love for the theater, his knack for hosting parties and love of the holidays. Scott made sure that every holiday was a grand celebration, a testament to his belief that everyone he met were family. He was a man who saw the world not as it is but as it could be - filled with love, laughter, and endless possibilities and made better by some accessories from All A Dollar.
Scott was a proud graduate of Box Elder High School, Class of 1965. Served an LDS mission to Hong Kong and the Philippines. Following his mission he attended BYU where he met the love of his life and best friend, Phyllis Anne Cook. They were married on November 3, 1973 in the Ogden Temple. Scott received his bachelor's degree in Communications and Media from BYU. He furthered his education at Weber State University, where he received his accreditation for school teaching. This commitment to learning was a testament to Scott's belief in the power of education and his dedication to his students. While teaching theater he directed over a 100 productions hoping the theater could give his students a a small touch of magic in their lives.
Scott is survived by his daughter Melanie (Bryce) Day, son Jeffrey (Miew Sawitree) Nelson, grandson Alexander Day, granddog Cooper, sister Kathy Tingey, and brother Paul Nelson. He was preceded in death by his father Wayne Nelson, mother Maxine Nelson, spouse Phyllis Cook, grandson Henrie Day, and brother Roger Nelson.
Scott's life was a testament to his creative spirit, and loving nature. His memory will live on in the lives of students he taught, neighbors he served and friends he cared for. His spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him.
