Sheila Griffiths (Brickey) Haggen
Heaven gained a Master Gardener, expert floral designer, seamstress, and teacher on March 22, 2019. Sheila Griffiths was born June 15, 1939, to Frederick Griffiths and Ruth Elizabeth Chadwick in Springville Utah. She would often reminisce about living at 1212 East Center and how much she loved to hike and explore the mountain across from her home. She enjoyed helping with the animals on their family farm. She played the violin and sang in choirs; music always brought her great joy.
August 27, 1955, Sheila married Robert Paul Brickey in the Salt Lake Temple. They had seven children and were later divorced. She married Arthur Emiel Haggen April 25, 1980, in Heber City, Utah and they were later sealed in the Logan Temple. Art had four children and had lost his wife to cancer. They had one daughter together, making a total of 12 children.
Sheila loved to serve in the Primary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and always found great happiness teaching children. Before traveling anywhere, she would check-out books from the library and study about the area, so that she could teach her children along the way. She loved to read and was always learning. She found joy working in the yard and garden. She would share her bounteous crops with everyone. She preserved fruits and vegetables to feed her family. As a talented seamstress, she would sew for her family and others, creating beautiful designs, sometimes without patterns.
Sheila always worked hard, whether it was as a floral designer or an AT&T phone operator. She was honored to be one of the first women to be hired as a cable splicer, climbing telephones poles or climbing underground to splice wires. She also worked for many years at the Utah State Developmental Center.
She received her Master Gardener degree and donated many hours planting bulbs and flowers for Thanksgiving Point. Sheila was also active in the Lions Club for over many years, volunteering and doing service through the valley.
Most of all, Sheila was a Mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, wife, daughter, sister, aunt, friend. She was a valiant daughter of heavenly parents and was an example to all.
Surviving are her children: Diane (John) Wilcox; David (Cha Cha) Brickey; Douglas (Chris) Brickey; Dale (Nadine) Brickey; Dean (Ann) Brickey; Dorothy Wilcox (Agustin) Mercado; Sarah Haggen; stepchildren: Bryant (Shelly) Haggen; Tanjalyn (Chris) Hortin; Nissa (Eugene) Moore; sisters, Emma Rae Cox and Margaret Griffiths. 28 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Haggen: son, Daniel Brickey and stepson, Arthur Haggen, Jr.
