Stanley B Stoner (84) passed away peacefully at his home on April 27th, 2023. Stan was born in Osceola Iowa on Feb. 5th, 1939 to Albert and Helen Stoner. The family moved to Brigham City when Stan was five years old. His dad came to help build the Bushnell Hospital. Stan followed in his Dad’s footsteps and completed a successful career in construction, spending a large part of that career at ABC construction and North Star Construction. After years of flirting and hesitating, Stan literally married the girl next door. He married Arlene (Peterson) Stoner on Dec.5th, 1976. Together they had 2 daughters and 10 grandchildren.
Stan was a hard worker and the kindest man you could meet. He loved the western desert. He spent most of his spare time in West Box Elder County where he hunted and trapped with his friends. He also loved to camp and spent many weekends hunting for bottles and other relics at old mining sites. His other favorite spot was Henry’s Lake in Island Park. His daughters will tell you they have spent a lot of days getting sunburned on that lake pretending to fish! He was also an avid Jazz fan, just like his mom.
Stan and his family loved antiques. His mother owned the Olden Daze antique shop on Main Street in Brigham. His brother, Bruce, still owns and operates it today. Stan’s home and sheds are more impressive than most antique shops and museums. He loved collecting. Some of his collections, specifically Redwing Jugs and oils lamps, are some of the best collections in the country.
If you couldn’t find Stan working or in the desert, the next place to look would be the coffee shop! Stan’s group of friends are different. They are “thick as thieves”. They did everything together. Most of them have known each other since childhood and still spend time with each other on a daily basis. He and his buddies had coffee at J&D’s every single day, and even 2 times a day at certain times in their lives. Shout out to their amazing wives!
Everyone that knew Stan loved him! He had a simplicity and sincerity to him that is rare to find! His daughters and grandkids were the ultimate joy of his life. He rarely missed a sporting or school event. He was so proud of everything they did. His impressions and impact on his family and friends will never die!
Stan is preceded in death by his Father (Albert) and Mother (Helen).
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Arlene, his brother Bruce and his sister Annie, his daughters Melissa (Eric) Holmstead, Stacy (Cody) Richards, and his 10 grandkids- (Stanley) Crew, Wyatt, Rhet, Ryder, Ethan, Ava, Wes, Brooks, Nora, and Beau!
