Steven Atkinson

December 5, 1957 — March 31, 2023

STEVEN ATKINSON Our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Steven W. Atkinson, died peacefully, surrounded by all of his biggest fans, on Friday, March 31, 2023 after a short battle with septic pneumonia. Steven was born on December 5, 1957 in Ogden, Utah to Dennis and Remona Atkinson. He spent his childhood working on his Gramp’s farm in the summers, and getting into mischief with his cousin Roger. In 1976, Steven graduated from Skyview High School in Smithfield, Utah. Steven continued to develop his enduring love for the Savior and His Gospel in 1978, as he went on a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to Saskatchewan, Canada. Following his mission, he attended Utah State University. It was there that he found his forever love, Kaye Spiekerman, in their Music 101 class. He married his best friend and eternal companion on August 20, 1981 in the Logan, UT Temple and spent the rest of their 42 years together serving and loving her. Together he and Kaye had 4 children - Taya, Doug, Megan, and Stephanie. He graduated with a Bachelors of Science from Utah State University in 1982 with a degree in Agricultural Economics, and spent his early career working for Production Credit Association and Farmers Home. His body would never keep up with his mind, and because of illness, Steven was forced to end his full-time career earlier than he wanted. Despite his poor health, Steven found joy in working part-time for Gillies Funeral Chapel in Brigham City. There, he found opportunities to connect with others and serve the community. He is known and loved by many in Brigham City because of his kindness and ability to make everyone around him feel loved, safe, and important. Steven dedicated his life to being an incredible father. He knew about every field trip, practice, permission slip, and homework assignment. He made sure the kids went to all of their appointments and took all of their medication. He made sure they all felt loved, valued, and cared for. Steven’s family was his whole world, and he was always there to support them for every life event, whether it was a wedding, piano recital, musical, or Rubik’s cube competition. He was often found playing trucks and tractors with his grandkids. He loved taking trips with Kaye in their camper. They would spend time together and enjoy warmer weather. He enjoyed riding four wheelers and side-by-sides and was excited about getting their own soon so that he could go on rides with Kaye. He also enjoyed an occasional motorcycle ride, and riding eBikes with Kaye on different trails. Steven’s love language was service to others, and he filled his life with countless acts of kindness. For many years, he volunteered weekly for Meals on Wheels. He was a spiritual giant and loved the Gospel. He was filled with faith and Christlike love every single day of his life. He served in numerous church callings including primary, Sunday school, ward missionary, ward clerk, and counselor in the bishopric. His favorite calling was primary, and he had a special gift for teaching children. There is still a watermelon seed on the kitchen counter from one of his primary lessons that he was hoping to watch grow. He is survived by his best friend and soulmate, Kaye, four children: Taya Fisher, Doug (Tressa) Atkinson, Megan (Glen) Moon, and Stephanie (Tyrel) Edwards, 13 grandchildren: Kayla, Reece, Amalia, Levi, Owen, August, Logan, Mara, Ayla, Porter, Kynlee, Navie, and Bridger, and three siblings: Kathy Nielsen, Joyce Pierson, and Brian Atkinson, brothers and sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his furriest canine friend, Jewel, that he loved with all of his heart. He is preceded in death by his father, Dennis Atkinson, mother, Remona Atkinson, and a son-in-law, Greg Fisher. Our family would like to sincerely thank the nurses, doctors, and staff at Ogden Regional Medical Center for their loving care of Steve in his final days. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2023 at 11:00 am at Kotter Canyon Ward, 620N. 300 E., Brigham City, Utah.
