Tanjalyn (Haggen) Hortin
On December 1, 2022, Heaven gained a new angel with a feisty temper and the sweetest and most generous spirit.
Tanjalyn (Haggen) Hortin, 68, ended her earthly journey at Brigham City Community Hospital due to long-term complications of Crohn’s disease. Tanja resided in Brigham City with her loving husband at the time of her passing. She was born October 21, 1954, to Arthur Emiel Haggen and Loraine Fillerup Haggen in Worland, Wyoming. She lived in many places in her life including Lovell, Cheyenne, Afton WY; St Paul, and Minneapolis MN; Fargo ND; Plain City, Clearfield, Richfield, Brigham City, Logan, and Harrisville UT, and Mudlake, ID.
Tanja met her high school sweetheart Chris R. Hortin when she attended Box Elder High School in Brigham City. She graduated high school in 1973 and then studied at Utah State University until Chris returned from his mission.
They were married for time and all eternity in the Logan L.D.S. temple on January 9, 1976. Tanja and Chris were blessed with 6 children during their 46-year marriage. Tanja was devoted to her children and her grandchildren. Some of her favorite activities were visiting with her grandchildren, reading books, cooking, doing crafts, making flower arrangements, shopping, and going out to eat. She was very giving and always gave freely to everyone around her.
Tanja and Chris made their home, for most of their marriage, in Harrisville, Utah where they gained many essential and long-lasting friendships. They recently moved to Brigham City to be closer to their family and enjoy a simple life. Tanja and Chris were active in their local L.D.S. ward and enjoyed sharing their love of music with their ward members.
Tanja worked as a transcriptionist for the Internal Revenue Service and later at McKay-Dee Hospital for many years where she retired at fifty-four due to her declining health.
Attending the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was one of Tanja's greatest joys in life and she found great happiness serving in the Primary. Tanja was a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus Christ and always willingly served in whatever capacity she was needed to fill.
Most of all, Tanja was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, daughter, and friend.
Tanja is preceded in death by her parents Arthur Emiel Haggen and Loraine Fillerup Haggen, her
step-mother Sheila (Griffiths) Brickey Haggen; her brothers Arthur Jr., and Bryant Haggen; her step-brothers Daniel and Douglas Brickey; her parents-in-law Don Dee Hortin and Bertha ReNae (Firth) Hortin, and her son-in-law Randy Taylor.
She is survived by her husband, Chris R. Hortin; her sister, Nissa (Eugene) Moore; her half-sister, Sarah Haggen; her sister-in-law Shelly Haggen (Bryant Haggen); her step-siblings: Diane (John) Wilcox; David (Cha Cha) Brickey; Dale (Nadine) Brickey; Dean (Ann) Brickey; Dorothy Wilcox (Agustin) Mercado; her children, Katrina (Scott) Gross, Derrick Hortin, Jessica (Matthew) Smith, Cameron Hortin, Dr. Kandralyn (Mike) Steele, and Megan Hortin; 25 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
