Ted Hougaard

July 31, 1934 — February 17, 2022

H. Ted Hougaard July 31, 1934 - February 17, 2022 (age 87) Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Harold Ted Hougaard, age 87, passed away at home on February 17, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Manti, Utah, to Louis H. and Florence Margaret Christensen Hougaard in his grandmother's old adobe home on July 31, 1934. Ted was raised in Manti, Utah. He graduated from Manti High School and Snow College. He served an honorable mission in the Northern California Mission. He graduated from Utah State University in 1960 with a dual major in Biology and Secondary Education. While at USU, he met his eternal companion, Ann Cathlee Richards. They were married on June 24, 1960, in the Logan Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They enjoyed 61 wonderful years of marriage. After their marriage he continued his post-graduate education by attending the University of Utah, Kansas State University, and graduated from Michigan State University with a master’s degree in Earth Science. He was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ and built his life, home, and family on the principles he learned in the Church. He faithfully served in many positions on ward and stake levels. He and Ann enjoyed serving together on a mission in the Ogden, Utah temple for several years. He often said his greatest desires in life were to be a good husband and father – and he certainly accomplished those things. He learned to love teaching while on his mission and decided to become a teacher rather than a lawyer based on those experiences. He taught many students over the years and treasured making a positive impact in young people's lives as a teacher. Being a great husband and father was his first priority. Some of his other hobbies and interests included: Singing - he had a great tenor voice. Being in a quartet or choir brought him much joy. He also loved singing in the car with his children while traveling and singing the hymns every Sunday in church. The great outdoors - he loved thunderstorms, cumulonimbus clouds, the full moon, a good snowstorm, the coming of Spring, Fall leaves, gardening, mountains and especially hunting and fishing with his family. He was one heckuva rifle shot. Telling stories – it seemed he had a story for any occasion. He loved the setup, people's reactions, and laughing with them. He was fun to be around with his dry wit and great sense of humor. He will be sorely missed. He leaves behind a great legacy of hard work, faith, and love of family. He is survived by his wife Ann, five children - David (Sharon) Hougaard, Julie Ann Richardson, Todd (Shannon) Hougaard, Robert (Jennifer) Hougaard, and Janette (Justin) Robinson. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his sister, LaRue Nielson and brother, John Hougaard. He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved Aunt Edna Christensen, sister LuDean Cox and brother, Tom Hougaard. Services will be held on Thursday, February 24, 2022 at the Brigham City 17th ward building (139 East 300 North) with a visitation from 10-11:30 at the church with the funeral service at noon. Interment will be in the Brigham City Cemetery.
