SMITHFIELD - Our loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Thomas C. Smith, 75, passed away on Saturday January 20, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born on May 12, 1942 in Walla Walla, Washington, a son of Kenneth Richardson and Alice Beddes Smith. He was reared and educated in Adrian, Oregon, and graduated from Adrian High School in 1960 and in 1966, he graduated from Treasure Valley Community College in Police Science.
Tom loved sports, especially, the New York Yankees, which he was recruited by the Yankees in 1960 as a catcher. In 1961 to 1964, he served in the Chile South America Mission. Tom was a member of the LDS church and served in various callings.
Tom married his sweetheart, Royella Charleen Gordon on December 11, 1965 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple.
Tom was the first official Police Chief in Fruitland, Idaho from 1966 to 1988. Thank you for the opportunity of serving with honorable men and women of law enforcement.
He also enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, the outdoors, the Utah Jazz and of course the New York Yankees. Tom enjoyed being with his three sons and his beloved wife.
Surviving is his wife, Royella; Gregory A. Smith, Idaho; Stephen E. (Danene) Smith, Kansas; Kenneth T. (Sandra) Smith, UT; 14 grandchildren and four siblings, Larue Longhurst, Idaho; LeRoy Smith, Texas; Lawrence Smith, Washington; Stanley Smith, Washington.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Effie and one brother, Wayne.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Smithfield LDS 7th Ward Chapel, 79 East 200 South.
A viewing will be held on the day of the service from 9:00 a.m. to 10:40 a.m. at the church.
Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery.
