Viva Lucille Hunteman Meyer
1926-2024
Viva Lucille Hunteman Meyer, 97, passed away on July 17, 2024 at her home in Brigham City, Utah.
She was born on November 27, 1926 in Edmond, Oklahoma, the eldest child of Henry H. and Doris Shipman Hunteman. She was raised and educated in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Viva lost her father, Henry, to an industrial accident when she was 13 years old. She married Richard (Dick) C. Meyer in 1946 after he served in the Navy during World War II.
After the war, Dick worked in the aerospace industry. Consequently, the family moved many times and all over the country, from Rhode Island to California. In 1957 their home was destroyed by a tornado in Kansas City, MO. Their final move was to Utah in 1964, where Viva resided for 60 years.
After raising three children, Viva spent 20 years working for the IRS, a job she enjoyed immensely.
Viva was a talented artist, making jewelry for family and friends. She loved camping in the wilderness with her husband. She was a longtime member and officer of the Utah Statewide Archaeological Society, participating in many digs. She was active politically. She had a special love and appreciation for indigenous people, their art and history. She valued spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren; Many museums and historical sites were explored.
Viva and Dick were also avid travelers visiting many foreign countries over the years. After Dick’s passing in 1999, Viva continued her travels with friends and family.
Surviving are three children: Mark (Irene) Meyer of Corvallis, OR; Jana Meyer of Holladay, UT; Neal (Linda) Meyer of Corvallis, OR; two grandchildren: Ian Meyer (Andrea) of San Francisco, CA and Lara Meyer of Corvallis, OR; two great-grandchildren: Lucas Meyer and Madison Meyer; one brother: James Hunteman of Texas.
Viva was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her infant son Eric Meyer, and five siblings: Richard (Dick) Hunteman, Thomas (Tom) Hunteman, Betty Heinlein, Nancy Scroggins and Dorothy Hunteman.
Viva’s wishes were to be cremated and buried next to her husband in the Hunteman family plot at the Grace Lawn Memorial Park in Edmond, Oklahoma. Send condolences to www.gfc-utah.com
