William James Skidmore passed away on March 6, 2023. He was born October 25, 1929 in his grandfather’s home in Richmond Utah. His parents were Cyrus Randolph Skidmore and Helen Timmins Skidmore. From his early years he worked on his dad’s farm with his three younger brothers. He started milking cows when he was 8 years old. He attended Park School and North Cache High School where he ran the mile and placed in the state track meet. He served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southern States Mission. He enlisted and served as a Corporal in the army during the Korean War stationed in Trieste, Italy. While on furlough he was engaged and married in the Logan Temple to Dorene Hendricks. He graduated with a B.S. degree in English with a minor in Chemistry from Utah State University and taught school for one year. He then accepted a “summer” job as a technical editor for Thiokol Chemical Corporation where he worked for over 31 years.
Bill and Dorene had five children Farrell (Laura), Mark (Nancy), Lorna (Brad), Barbara (Clint), and Cheryl (Brian). They have 20 grandchildren and 46 great-children and counting. Bill rode his bicycle and motorcycle every day until he was over 87. Bill was an active member and past chapter president of the Sons of the Utah Pioneers. Bill & Dorene enjoyed traveling with friends and family. They have held a family reunion at Bear Lake for over 40 years. Bill was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many callings including Webelos leaders, High Councilor and Bishop. Bill & Dorene served in the Oklahoma Tulsa mission and worked in the Ogden Temple for many years.
The family would like to thank the Brigham City 17th Ward for their years of service as well as Apple Tree Assisted Living and Cascade Springs Hospice for their loving care for our father.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of over 63 years, Dorene; his three brothers: Dick, Lee & Lynn; two brothers-in-law: Jim Dalley & Fred Miller and three sisters-in-law: BonAdell, Dorothy, & Ruth Dalley. He is survived by his children and grandchildren; Carol Skidmore, sister-in-law; Elizabeth Miller, sister-in-law; Randall Hendricks (Raylene), brother-in-law.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 13, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at the Brigham City 17th Ward 139 East 300 North, Brigham City Utah. Viewings will be held at Gillies Funeral Chapel, 634 East 200 South in Brigham City Sunday, March 12, 2023 from 6:00 - 7:30 p.m. or Monday morning at the church prior to the services from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at the Brigham City Cemetery.
