On the evening of September 1st, 2023 Zachary Leavitt, left this world with his treasured wife of just one year, Emily Blaine, and his loving mother-in-law, Jennifer, and adored sister-in-law, Denali.
When Zach came into this world he hit the ground running and never stopped. He has an insatiable appetite for life and wanted to learn and experience everything about the world around him. He is blessed with an amazing memory and ability to retain every piece of information he gathers. He loved sharing his discoveries with anyone who would listen. As a young man he was nicknamed “Zoogle” because of the random bits of information he holds in his head and was quick to add context to any discussion. I think the first words he learned were “well, actually…”
Zach loves people and most important to him is making sure that everyone around him is happy and actively included in whatever is taking place. Whether it is building a tower in the back yard, a fort in the basement, dancing with his friends, scaling the nearest mountain, or his most beloved outdoor adventure, snow skiing, Zach was never satisfied until everyone he loves experienced the full measure of joy that those activities bring.
Zach taught this same love of life to his siblings Sarah, Emily, Sam, Rachel, and Brigham. They were always willing partners in whatever scheme he cooked up and couldn’t wait to find out what the next adventure had in store. Zach adores his brothers and sisters and they return that love.
Zach was always wanting to try new things. Experiencing life was a joy for him. He had many interests from sports, to singing and any type of outdoor adventure but what his heart settled on in his time at Davis High School was swing dancing. He would round up as many people as he could to come to the regional dances that were held every month and made sure that every person at the dance made it on the dance floor and learned a little about what he loved. He never passed up an opportunity to dance.
Zach used his many gifts to graduate with his diploma from Davis High School and associate degree from Weber State University at the same time. He carried that love of learning to Brigham Young University but not before dedicating two years of his life to serving the person he loved most, his Savior Jesus Christ, in the Massachusetts Boston mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He brought that same fire and love of life to those he served and was fearless in testifying of the truthfulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Zach found his perfect match when he met Emily and they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Bountiful temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Once together, they were inseparable, and Emily enthusiastically joined in on every adventure Zach could dream up and added her own to their packed schedules. Zach loves Emily with his whole soul, and she returns that love. They lived life large, out loud and full of love.
Zach and Emily experienced more in their short time on earth than most people do in a lifetime. Though they will be missed dearly by those they left behind, there is peace in knowing they went together and are continuing their work in the service of the Lord Jesus Christ. God is good.
We would like to thank the first responders, mortuary staff, and all those involved in the aftermath of this terrible accident. We are praying for you and will be eternally grateful for your kindness and tender words of support.
A special thanks for the hundreds of people who have provided a million hugs and prayers and such an outpouring of love that we can barely receive it. We have been surrounded by those who love Zach, Emily, Jennifer, and Denali and who were served by them in their short mortal stays. We cannot thank you enough. We will forever be in your debt. May God bless you with their memories and keep you all in His tender care.
Zach is survived by his parents, Doug and Tracy Leavitt; his siblings, Sarah, Emily, Samuel, Rachel, and Brigham; his beloved Blaine family Nate, Ben, Deven, and Bronco in addition to numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents.
Services for Zachary and Emily, and the Blaine Family include a closed casket public viewing held Friday, September 15 from 5-8 pm at the LDS Stake Center, 420 South 800 West, Brigham City, UT, with funeral services held Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 1pm at the Stake Center in Brigham City, UT through Gillies Funeral Chapel.
